The Wind-Up Merchant

How I Get my bother Dodo into trouble, by Dez the dog.

For those of you who don’t know me, I am a Border Collie, and I love movement, or more specifically, controlling movement. I like to maintain a high level of vigilance, I’m very security minded and I feel that it is really important to always be near my humom.  My brother Dodo on the other hand, is a Podenco crossed with a Brittany Spaniel (whoever thought that was a good idea needs their head examining).  He likes to go fast, but mostly in circles, spirals and wavy lines, and he likes to go off on his own hunting and this drives me crazy!

Dodo is generally quite laid back, he hardly ever barks in the house, even when I tell him that I’m sure that there is an intruder somewhere within the vague vicinity of the house.  To be honest I think that he’s a bit lazy, I mean he likes laying around and just cuddling with humom or Twiggy!

I have discovered one thing which really winds Dodo up, other animals in the garden.  Ever since I was right about the scary killer hedgehog on the patio (which was so much fun), he believes me when I say I can hear something outside, even if I’m just using it as a way to get him to move away from something that I want.  I must admit I really enjoy getting him excited, it means I get to round him up and bite at him.  For some reason my humom doesn’t like it when we get excited and loud in the house or garden, which is weird because she loves it when I shout at people when we are doing the search and rescue game.

My humom has tried letting Dodo into the garden first and then calming me down before letting me out, but that just makes me angry and I’ve taken it too far resulting in Dodo biting back at me.  Recently she’s really cramped my style by letting me into the garden on my own, with supervision, before she lets my brother out, resulting in him being boringly calm.  On top of that she’s teaching Dodo to ignore me when I pretend to hear something outside.  She says it’s not nice to get Dodo excited because it makes him shout and bite at me, and that it will damage our friendship.  He doesn’t like me much anyway, and I think it’s funny when he’s angry!

I have to admit that, if spoiling my fun is her goal, then letting me into the garden on my own after she’s checked it’s safe and teaching Dodo to ignore me is working.  Darn it!
